your consultation.

Factual information to support a discussion with a prescriber. Your assessment determines which options, if any, are suitable.

Prescription treatment options

Botulinum toxin medicines, including Botox, are prescription-only medicines. A prescriber may discuss one as a possible option after assessing you. The consultation may lead to a different recommendation or to no treatment. Ask which exact product is proposed and why it is appropriate for you.

Understand the risks

These medicines can cause side effects. Depending on the treatment, these can include injection-site pain, swelling or bruising. Serious complications can also occur. The prescriber should explain the risks relevant to you, possible alternatives and aftercare, and provide the patient information leaflet for the proposed product.

Seek urgent medical help if you develop difficulty breathing, swallowing or speaking after treatment.

Independent patient information

Read the full information and discuss any questions with the prescriber before making a decision.
